Snarky is not incivil. Bombastic is not incivil. Bill O’Reilly is incivil. Rachel Maddow is not incivil. You are a doofus. I never took a vow not to be incivil. You’ve got no argument. Donate whatever money the Times gave you to charity, please, because you didn’t earn it. Your argument blows.
Oh, and in case it wasn’t apparent that was intentional: my previous comment was not civil…to provide an example.
I am sure you can easily find footage of Keith Olbermann going overboard often, sometimes even off a cliff, and whether I often agree with him or not does not make his tone civil; but please cite even just a few instances of Rachel Maddow doing so. I know that if someone publishes something in the New York Times and hasn’t checked it they are unlikely to do so subsequently, but Ms. Maddow is the most civil of any of the opinion commentators.
Rachel Maddow is one of the most civil voices on television. You should apologize. Mainly for failing to be funny, since she certainly can take the insult.
The editorial was silly enough to begin with, but to class Rachel Maddow, or even Olbermann for that matter, with the likes of Limbaugh and O’Reilley, ruined whatever satire you had attempted. The art of satire means you have to look for real equivalencies to make it funny; if you were looking for “icons” of leftist incivility, you should have looked to people who don’t take so much care over their facts, or who are racist against establishment-types, though they are much harder to find. I’d have said Al Sharpton, but unlike O’Reilley and Limbaugh, the man has worked hard for civil rights for decades. Again, you might have said Andrea Dworkin, but alas, she’s dead. In fact, there is no one on the left who practices incivility on the level that your two right-wing examples do each night on their nation-wide shows. This one was a swing and a miss.
