Hi! I am so pleased I googled Bush Pigs. I found this site and I want to read everything. I read Bush Pigs some years back in the New Yorker and I copied it and kept it. I haven’t managed to keep much so that’s saying something. I read it to a couple close friends who aren’t book smart but listened to the whole thing. Very cool. I dropped out of high school many years ago but I am going to City College in SF now. I have read a lot. This is the only contemporary short story I would put in the classic category that includes Jack London, John Steinbeck, Saul Bellow, Anton Chekov, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. I didn’t know you wrote anything else. I can’t wait to read all your stuff! Thanks.
I have just read your “Bet Your Life.” It is the one of the best, if not the best mystery story I have ever read. Thanks!!!
Keep up the good writing.
Joe
I read Critical Care & saw the movie.
It is so comforting to read the truth & see it portrayed in dvd.
I like the way you use fiction humor to educate & inform.
I have been trying to get your other books at the library.
I used to be a nurse & I know all about gomers etc.
Now that I am 64 I am doing all that I can so that I don’t become one, such as DNR, staying away from doctors, no health insurance & not calling 911.
Where is a novel like yours & Samuel Shem’s pertaining to nursing?
Wow, “A Generation Gap” was rather shocking. Perhaps you and Peter Singer should get together, and we could eliminate the unwanted at both ends of life.
BTW, doesn’t it make sense that the elderly routinely require more health care dollars than others? After all, the average 25-yr old is a lot healthier and disease-free than the average 70-yr old.
Maybe you should add your proposal to the current 1,000+ pg health care bill. That would add some zest to the Town Hall meetings.
Bravo on “Health Care’s Generation Gap”! Richard Dooling’s next book should be entitled “Life is Terminal”. Having worked in healthcare (and I use the term loosely) for over 40 years, witnessing “high tech death” has been no picnic. Especially when the late 80- late 90 year old patient is in the intensive care wired to all and the “children” are calling from LA or Chicago saying “do everything”…I would like to have a handy cam to let them see what mom or dad looks like and the suffering they are enduring. Why aren’t you here if you’re so concerned.
Thank you for a real time perspective on using our healthcare dollars on healthcare rather than high tech death.

I just read A Generation Gap in the St. Pete (Fl.) Times. I could not agree more, as I am a retired respiratory therapist, too. Keep on educating the public about what really goes on in ER and ICU. Bully for you!!
I am listening to your show on Coast to Coast AM right now, thank you for using your time and effort to help demystify technological evolution. I am sure you will have great success with your book! In the words of another “Coast” fan, from another show, about another great topic….. what a fresh breath of RF.
